The charging circuit goes from the gennys output (its ARM terminal),,,,,,,to the ARM terminal on a VR or Cutout Relay,,,,,out the BAT terminal on the VR or Cutout Relay,,,,,,,,,to the Load (NOT battery/starter) side of the ammeter,,,,,,,,,,through the ammeter to the hot ungrounded battery post USUALLY via a wire from the hot battery cable terminal on the starter switch. The supply side of the ammeter usually has but one wire, the hot battery voltage as described above, while its other load terminal wires to BAT on the VR or Cutout Relay PLUS feeds hot battery voltage to lights n ignition. Since the ammeters supply terminal is wired to the hot ungrounded battery post, while its load terminal receives the gennys output plus has lights n ignition wired to it, it registers the net charging current into the battery or discharging current out of it.
