I am going through the trans on my H right now.. What Larry said is true on the sloppy shifter ( I am going to have to do all that to mine as well). I can add a few things I have learned. It is very possible the front trans shaft bearing is wore out and possibly the main shaft pilot bearing. Also worn teeth on the fifth gear may be an issue. all of these things can add up to the main shaft getting floppy and pop it out of gear.
