The number 2*27*48 is the casting code for February 27, 1948. It seems that IH actually used the number of the year in both 1947 and in 1948. All other years used a letter to designate the year. Since there is no evidence of a serial number tag, I will guess that the M in question was built in either 1939 or very early 1940. If so, the casting codes will end with the letter I for 1939, or J, for 1940, and the tractor serial number will be stamped into the top of the right hand frame rail. (I think)
