My Farmall "H" will crank whether the ignition switch is on or not. The starter button is wired in between the starter and the battery. There is no solenoid. The ignition switch controls fire to the points and coil only. Since I never had wiring problems with my "H" nor never worked on a 600 I'm obviously not as familiar with the wiring as those of you who have restored or upgraded yours. However, my guess would be a dead short implying that current is feeding direct to the points and coil. The only way I could see that happening would be through the ammeter guage since the juice passes through here whether there is ignition on or not. There's lots of other wiring junctions involving the lighting, generator, and voltage regulator, depending on where the splices are. Anyway, glad you got it fixed. Really doesn't matter a hoot about my guess.
