As has been stated, the older Farmalls do not go through a solenoid, so they always crank. But I did run into this same thing when I did my first 12V conversion. I wired one side of the switch to the battery, the other side to both the field on the alternator, and the ignition circuit. So when you shut off the switch to the battery, the ignition gets back-fed by the field wire from the alternator and the engine woln't shut off. The fix required a diode in line with the alternator field wire. Now of course, to see if this has anything to do with your problem is yet to be seen:) BTW - are you sure there are no more hints;) Stan(VA).
