Properly maintained, those farmall disk brakes work nice. For effective brakes: 1 - Use good brake disks - make sure they've got a plenty of friction material on 'em. Replace them if they're worn or oil soaked. 2 - Make sure there are no traces of grease/oil on the inside of the brake cover, on the center disk ass'y or on the tranny side of the brake. 3 - Clean the center disk ramps and balls. Lightly lube the balls with powdered graphite or moly sulphide. 4 - Lightly coat the brake shaft splines with Never Sieze - wipe off any excess. Also lightly coat the center disk reaction dogs where they bear on the brake cover with the same stuff. 5 - If your tractor sits outside, cover the steering wheel & seat with a tarp to keep rainwater out of the brakes. Did the above to my Super M about 5 years ago. Brakes will skid both tires on a hard road with moderate pedal effort.
