I'm sure there are other opinions, but I would recommend a 6 volt coil with a ballast resistor between the ign. switch and the coil. Make sure the coil polarity is right, that is the plus terminal goes to the resistor and the neg. terminal goes to the points. Sometimes this isn't changed. Finally, to improve starting, you can put a momentary push switch across the resistor (One terminal on the switch to the ign switch, the other to the coil +)Hold the switch in when starting and release when it cranks. That will give 12V on a 6V coil and a nice hot spark. Don't simply leave out the resistor, you point will wear too fast.
