I would put a trickle charger on the battery and charge it to "fully charged." Then put a voltmeter on it and with the switch "off", crank for several spins. The battery should not fall much below 10-11 volts, if that much, and clearly not below 9,8 or off the planet. If so, its bad and voodoo won't help it. If it doesn't kick down, wait about 2 min and crank again - observe again - wait 2 min - repeat. If it doesn't kick way down by about the 3rd load test, it's probably ok,- - then trickle it again to full, and crank the tractor and observe the ammeter. If after full trickle charge, it still shows 10 amp for more than a minute or so, your VR is bad, and the battery will follow it soon, or it's wired somehow in a way that gen current bleeds over. However, the bleed over would cause the primary coil to remain charged with the switch off, unless the bleed over is to the hot side of the switch, and the bleed over would keep the engine running with the switch off. Don't know which way you want me to hope, VR or Battery?? I'll hope what you hope.RKS
