You can easily determine if the small pin in the control value is broken, by taking the plug out below the valve and see if the bottom spring and rod come out, or take out the upper seal base plug and see if you can pull the upper valve on out. I'd strongly suggest installing a piece of wire from an old choke cable in place of the small pin. In 20+ years I've never had the problem repeat itself. The wire is strong and not too brittle like the pin. First put the wire in a shop vise and hit it with a small hammer to bend a 90 deg in the end. Then put the wire in place and snip it off 1/8" ext. Use your hammer and bend the 2nd 90 deg. Then take it to a grinder and smooth up the ends to prevent any over extension.
