806 PTO will not engage

I have an 806 diesel with 540 and 1000 rpm pto shafts. When you engage the handle they will not operate. I have been told that there is a linkage pin of some sort, on the handle assembly, internal to the tractor that may need to be replaced. Is anyone familiar with this?? I would like any information available about what is involved to repair this or other possible causes of this problem. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
