Rick - the problem isn't "crossing the cables," it's that the terminals will be further under the tank. As you face the tractor on the battery tray side, the pos cable grounded to the starter was on the left connected to the pos terminal, but now the neg terminal is on the left (further under the tank) - - but the same cable grounded to the starter is connected now to the neg terminal instead of the pos, making the system neg ground.
