I think the engines may have been built at a different factory than the tractor, so the black
may have been something to keep it from rusting
before it was put in the tractor. Plus your tractor is only 2000 numbers from the last one made in 1936 (the last serial # for 1936 was 68748). They started painting them red on Nov. 1
1936 so I would say that your tractor was painted
red at the factory. I would say it was 1 of the first few tractors painted red.
