The clutch has nothing to do with it. Two things will cure this problem. First, your shift lever is worn out on the end allowing it to move from one shift rail to another before the first one has become aligned with the second one. Next time you pull the shifter out examine the end. Building it up with weld may solve the problem, if you're lucky. The springs and balls that constitute the detents in the shift rails are probably also faulty making shifting between gears way to easy. The combination of sloppy shift rails and a worn end on the shifter lead to the problem you have.
