Might be a bad bearing on the 1st-reverse gear shaft. Also check shift fork for that gear for a bent finger. Try jacking up one rear wheel of the tractor and having someone turn this wheel while you watch what happens inside the trans. That might give you some better idea of what's going on in there. Phil
