MJD, For some reason, the technical details I have forgotten, something to do with current flow and amperage, a six volt system works more efficiently on positive ground. On a 12 volt system, the positive ground or negative ground perform with equal efficiency. Eventually all manufacturers standardized on negative ground 12 volt systems. All Packard automobiles, apparantly early 12 volt IHC products, and some other early 12 volt applications were set up positive ground before everyone standardized on the negative. As stated the 12 volt system works equally well either way. I ran a TD 6 for a while in the mid 50's and I was almost sure it was negative ground but time must have altered my memory as several have stated that 50's era IHC products on 12 volt were positive ground.
