Curt,
The first place I would look is the oil pump. Frequently the oil pump cover is warped and allows the thin gasket to leak or blow out.
1. If the cover is warped, which it probably is, it will need to be refaced to a true surface.
2. The gasket(s) are also used as shims for gear to cover clearance. I don't have my book available now to give the clearance spec.
3. Don,t over tighten the cover bolts. Good Luck,
