Super A seat ???

I purchased a after market new {red & white}seat and a pair of new after market springs and tried to install them, well low and behold they wouldn't latch. By that I mean with the seat in the down position the catch on the seat won't drop into the spring's latch, they just don't match up by 1/2 inch. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and if so, how did you work it out ????
