I don't believe the idler gear has timing marks as you mentioned. It doesn't need to be timed. Line up the single punch marks on the crank and cam. Line up the double punch marks on the cam and magneto drive. As mentioned you may have to look close but they're there. Clean off the fronts of the gears with a good quality brake clean. Good Luck
