Hey Dick - I think I understand your problem! It's been a while since I was inside the timing cover on the Super M. But as I recall the crank gear timing mark was either a beveled tooth or a punch mark on a tooth. Reviewing my photos, it looks like when the crank is at #1 TDC, the crank gear timing mark is 4th tooth going counterclockwise from the top. I.E. if we call the tooth on top of #1, the timing mark is tooth #4 counting counterclockwise. And to add to the confusion, it looks as though the crank gear keyway is at about 7 o'clock when the crank's at #1 TDC. But again it's hard to tell for sure from my pix. Anyway contact me off board if this doesn't help - perhaps there's another way to figure this thing out. ...Bob M
