The best way I have found to do this is to put the cub in neutral before I open the tranny. Put chocks on the wheels. Then I pull the bolts, and the shifter cover will move straight up. When I put it back together, I make sure the tranny is again in neutral, the shifter arms will be centered, and set the cover back down carefully. I usually put two bolts in finger tight and then carefully work the shifter to be sure that all four gears 1-3 & r work. Then I tighten every thing down, fill with 80w-90 and run it. Just make sure that nothing binds and be aware that since the tranny isn't turning, some of the gears may be hard to get into since the cub has tooth to tooth meshing on the gears.
