We just had a real headache with our 48 cub with magneto. So here's an unexpected thing to look for.

If you think you have it all timed right and you still can't get it to run, or it runs hot, the impulse coupler on the magneto may be frozen.

We got a freshly rebuilt magneto yesterday and it runs like a champ. Until then we could not adjust the magneto to come even close to running correctly. It ran rough and hot, or not at all.

Make sure you check the valve clearance too.
