The number 1 reason they will most likely have to come down is extreme foundation problems. The old two story house (there are two on property and I am leaving one for storage for a while) has a rock foundation which is crumbling beyond repair. The barn has a concrete foundation cracked and partially falling away. This could probably be repaired, but it also has some pretty signifacant rot on the other side(s). It also is roughly 50 feet from where I think my building site will be (i.e. too close). The house I am having plans drawn up for is roughly 1800 sq. ft. on a full walkout basement, which will swallow up a good amount of that area. At this point I don't think I have much option other than demolition unless I relocate my building site some.
