Have you tried to remove the nut & put some more packing behind it over/around the valve? (The valve will screw out.) Might be worth the $30 to get a new valve body just to get the packing, nut & brass shut-off & put 'em in the old body, if you can't find any packing. I've used the packing out of a Coleman gas lantern valve before & got satisfactory results. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
