The axles are the same as a W6, And yes the axle from an M or Super M will interchange. The splines on the bull gear end are the same. The outer seal cap is also different and the one off an M or Super M will fit.
I don't quit understand your comment about the spline wearing out. I have a 600 Diesel that has the same 6 spline axles only larger and they are so tight that It is very hard to remove the wheel. I had to replace the seals on my 600 and it was a real job getting them off.
