Hello IH guys - I have taken some figures down on this Super M I have, and will pass it on to you for more info hopefully. The serial # tag on left side of clutch housingsays: model SM serial # F - 12558 ADJ maximum 1600 RPM idle speed What does the above mean? Where built? On right side of tractor body between brake pedals and belt pulley is digits 7-2-X kindof stamped in raised lettering. Tractor has disc brakes.Left rear axle housing has 7-2-X on it. Right rear axle housing is 5-28-X on it. Left wheel has 1 and 1/8 inch wheel bolts.Right wheel has 1 inch wheel bolts. These bolts tighten cast wheels to the axle itself. These are the bolt head size. Between the light post throttle support, and the seat, are the digits 221 W ? imbedded in the floor. These look like recessed numbers, not raised, and you read this by facing rear oftractor. Tractor has the little foot lever starter rod. Tractor has 4 bolt seat, flip back. With shockand big spring. The hydraulic? pump is mounted in front of belt pulley housing...a hose from it goes to bottom side of tractor body below the belt pulley, right side. This is behind the clutch housing. Power steering pump on top left side of engine, generator on opposite right side, with a narrow belt connecting the 2 with fan pulley. All thisunder the hood. I am hoping these are the "casting numbers" someone mentioned that may be needed for some identification? Other numbers on tractor I recognize as part numbers, so let me know if there are spots to check for more of the othernumbers, if needed. I hope this is a little more thorough, other than sending you some closeup shots of the tractor. I can do this later with our digital camera, if I get a chance, and get them on the computer tosend. Can you let me know more about this tractor by what I have sent you? Thanks for your time. It needs a few things to get it more complete, and solid, grill is bent a little. The battery is in a "slide out" metal tray box under the gas tank. Wiring looks orig. and bare in spots, I have taped. Engine number I did not try to see, can do later. It has a little fuel tank, plus the main one. Runs smooth, seems strong, gears quiet in all speeds. Oil filter can looks tall, isthis a special filter for it? Sorry this is long.....what can you tell me about this Super M? Thank you guys for so very much, I love this old thing.......if it is a '53, its gonna be 50 years old soon !!! Geeeesss...sameyear as my class re-union too !! MJD

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
