As mentioned by the Village Blacksmith, below, speed (power) costs money. How fast do you want to go? Yes, it can be done. No, it's not always satisfactory. If you're SERIOUS about doing this, do some research first! Select an engine that will fit in the space available without major modifications. Be sure you're picking something that will produce at least as much torque at low (1000 rpms or less) speed as the original engine, and will generate at least as much hp at high (2000 rpms or so) speed if you're gonna farm with it! These factors, and how much money you're willing to throw at the situation need to be considered BEFORE you start. DON'T pick some engine just for sentimental reasons! That is likely to get expensive in a hurry. I went to college in the mid 60's with a guy who had a thriving little part time summer business putting Ford V8s in Farmall Ms, Super Ms, and at least one W9. He used the old 390 V8s for the most part, and mated the M clutch to the Ford flywheel. As I remember, he had family connections to both Ford and IH dealerships. I never saw one in operation.
