I just did that to my farmall C. Both axles had the round plate that bolted to the end of the axle. The plate tightened up against the bull gear. Someone told me that the older Farmall C's had the two bolts and the round plate and the newer ones used the big snapring against the bull gears. I bet an axle had been broken and a replacement installed. That is why you have both types. I used new bolts with locktite so the bolts would not come out again. I also made a few flat spots in the new bolts so they would be less likely to loosen.
