I-544 gernerator to alternator conversion

I have a International 544 that was in the family. It is presently not working and I am trying to get it to run. Many people have been messing with this tractor so I am checking over everthing. It appears that someone has removed the voltage regulator and the generator and replaced them with a resistor block and an alternator. I was wondering if anyone else have done this and if so how was it wired. I am checking everthing over since the tractor will not start. Any help is greatly apprechated.
