I had to replace the 1/R idler gear and also replaced the through shaft bearing and 1/R sliding gear in my '54 Cub. Now I'm getting ready to button it all up and I'm looking for advice on getting the through shaft lined up with the clutch plate, as well as any other things to look for. Anybody got warnings, helpful hints? etc.? Thanks in advance. PS- Found that I didn't have to take the final drives off or the differential out to replace everything in the top of the Transmission...all that's only necessary if you're replacing gears, bearings or ? on the countershaft! Once you break the tractor, you can reach just about everything in the top of the transmission and get everything done you need, except the idler gear shaft, which you can push out from behind in the differential housing with a dowel. I read the procedures, but it just didn't seem to be necessary, and that's how it proved out. Saved alot of work!
