Hi: Yesterday in the string on differance between SMTA and 400 to 450, I stated there was a bigger engine in the 450. I called it a 282 and that it was "about max for the 4 cylinder series." Golly I'am glad you caught my terrible mistake in that it was a 281 and not 282.(grin) Wow. This forum has a lot of correct info. My goodness. I'll have to be moe careful. I do have something that most here do NOT have. That is memories of taking a brand new Farmall 450 out to the field for some serious work. I can still see\remember it well. I was impressed with its power over the 400-SMTA-SMD-MD's etc that I had been driving. Maybe it was the smell of still factory fresh paint being "cured" by various parts running at full operating temps. It sure was great to be using brand new Farmalls. It's few and far between now to find any restored to close to that kind of condition..and allowed to be used for everyday work. We also had, years earlier, a brand new SMD and MD but the 450 was tops of the 4 cylinders for me ....even if it was 281 cubes rather than 282.. (G) ralph (enjoy'em all)
