Son and I just replaced axles bearings on our SMTA today. There is a bearing retainer that holds the inside bearing on the axle. Was told that axle cannot be slid out without removing it which requires axle carrier housing to be removed. For what we were wanting to do we were able to remove PTO housing and get to nut on bull gear that way. If you have a cherry picker or shop crane you might want to use it. Son is 26 and strong as a mule, took it off by himself but was a load. I couldn't have done it. Keep telling him he's going to end up with back problems like me. Going to put it back together tomorrow, hope everything lines up ok good luck, boog
