I have a couple items to try. 1. take carb off put your hand on manifold body where carbs goes - crank it over. do you feel a vacumm. yes, go to step 2. re-install carb. 3. remove plugs, and remove valve cover, HAND crank until #1 cylinder intake valve opens and closes - continue to hand crank until #1 is top dead center, now check you distrubter timing. is your rotor on #1 plug wire? if not adjust so it is.4. install wire on number #3 plug and turn it over until it sparks. - it should be only a 1/4 turn of the flywheel. Spark? yes. 5. shoot a little gas into each cylinder and re-install plugs, wires, etc.. It should fire up if everything else is correct. If your carb drips gas then adjust your float, by bending it down so that when it is all the way up it is level and not at an upward swing. If you have a backfire it sounds as if you may be 180 degress off time. easy to do. but if you follow my directions it wont be. If you think its 180 off. then try this before you do anything else try putting plug wires - 1 on 4, 3 on 2, 4 on 1, 2 on 3. this will put your timing 180 advanced.
