I think you hit it with the fuel starvation solution. I pulled the plug at the bottom of the carb, and a steady stream of fuel came out for a few seconds, then trailed off until it started to dribble down the side of the carb. Put the plug back in for a few seconds, and did the same thing. That quick jerk on the throttle was not enough of a test, as the fuel line had time to fill back up again. Under load it demanded more fuel. I'll figure out where the obstruction is this weekend. Thanks for your help.
