Farmall H with small crack in casting

Hi, I am not a farmer, but I needed a tractor to move boats around my yard and to haul them. I found this Farmall H, 1946 that is looking good to me. Except it was pointed out to me that there is a crack in the cast block near the shift,it is about 4 inches long. The guy I am buying it from, thinks it is from the tractor being hung up on something. My question is, can these tractors, deal with a little thing like that and keep running?
