The Magnum trans on the MX270 of today is a form of the 5088/52/5488/7288/7488, IH had problems with unions, upper management, biggest was farm crisis in the 80s, they were used to cranking out a lot of tractors in a day from Farmall plant, It dropped to almost nothing. As far as not changing, they probably tried more new ideas than another well known company, I will say that IH kept the original TA from 7/806 way to long.
