Jon, if that puts any kind of preload on that bearing their is something out of place. their is a step on the axle behind each bearing. So it should only pull up to that point. On that inner bearing, it should be tapped into place with the flat washer facing bull gear and set up into bearing and gear should be flush with axle when installed and tightened. Everything should be free no binding.
