Make sure you have the correct Super A head gasket. After owning mine for about 17 years, I took the head off to correct sticking valves, & discovered it had the wrong gasket all that time. The older ones without a water pump took one with large holes for the water passages. The newer ones with water pump, have small 1/8" holes for the water passages, I guess to provide some resistance for the pump. With the pump, you need the large, full dia. holes for the thermic flow principal to work. The bolt pattern & block size are the same, so both will work, also make sure you have the right gasket for either the 3" bore or 3 1/8" bore.........DDG
