A Head Gasket Question

Just got my kit with the head gasket in it. Have a question about the gasket. It is a typical gasket, gasket material and then a thin metal facing. The metal facing that is to be placed down against the block does not fit flush with the gasket material. Seems to be just a hair bigger in a place or two. So, is that typical of the Head Gasket for a Super A? Or do I need to get them to replace it?
