Remove the # 1 plug (Front end of engine) and crank the engine with your finger in the plug hole. When you feel air pushing out against your finger slow the cranking and look into the plug hole with a light, should see the top of the piston coming up. Continue cranking until #1 is at the very top of its stroke (TDC). Now look at the rotor tab under the dist. cap. Should be pointing to the #1 plug wire position on the cap. If not you may have to loosen the dist. and turn it so that the rotor does point to #1 position on cap. Then again, you may have it 180 out and if thats the case, remove the dist and turn the straight lug on the front end of the dist shaft so the rotor tab points to #1 and the lug will fit into the slot on the dist drive. This will get you close. After it starts you can rotate the dist for best performance and/or check timing with a timing light.//FB
