Distributor timing...

Hello gentlemen,

Been a while since I last posted. Have just completed rebuilding my SA. Wow... having never been inside an engine before, that was quite an experience. Anyway I digress....

Need to know how to time a distributor (with coil, not magneto). During the rebuild, I removed the timing/drive gear for the distributor and I believe I may need to make sure it's right. I'm getting fire to the plugs but no "boom" and I smell gas from the exhaust. Also, I do have the timing gears correct if anyone were to suggest checking.
