Bob: As you may or may not recall with the number of questions you recieve. My tractor is the one that trucking company left switch on during moving. Tractor arrived with cooked battery, original wireing harness melted. I had installed a new battery just before move so they wouldn't have trouble starting. Yesterday I installed a new Battery, 520 cranking amps, showing 12.5 volts at installation. I put all new wires on tractor as per your diagram two wire with alternator H & M. My tractor is a 130 so assume only difference is solinoid versus start lever on 130. I did not check out ampmeter or alternator as I have to drive some distance to do that. After starting tractor, I checked at several points with voltmeter and was getting 12-12.5 volt reading. After I shutt tractor off I put volt meter on at alternator, with tractor not running and ign. switch off I got 1-2 volt reading. Thinking that shouldn't be I removed ground from battery came to house, posted for your help. Upon reading your responce this am I went to shop connected battery, started tractor, after a bit of warm up I removed battery ground, tractor stoped immediately. I repeated and same thing. Ampmeter guage also does not go to neutral as it used to when tractor is shutt off. The ampmeter hand does move several points + when tractor is started and goes to + 5 when tractor is off. Two questions, 1. Should I have gotten that 1-2 volt reading at alternator with tractor off. 2. Tractor stoping when I removed battery ground leads me to believe alternator is not working. Is this alternator or just internal regulator. Also the fact that I did not get the 13-14 volt reading you speak of with tractor running, reinforces the thought that alternator is not working.
