John, without meaning to sound cynical, shouldn't you have asked your question before you hooked up your coil? At any rate, your coil has (or should have)the two terminals plus a tower in the center. If your tractor has the battery NEG post connected to the starter and the POS post to ground, then the terminal on your coil marked POS should be connected to your distributor. The thick cable that comes out of the coil center tower (known as the secondary or high-tension cable) of course, goes to the center tower of your distributor. If your coil is heating up excessively it is possible that you may need a ballast resistor (you should have received an instruction sheet with your new coil)or that all the connections at the two terminals and the high tension boots are not clean and tight, thus increasing the amount of resistance in the circuit (resistance causes heat).Hope this helps.
