Checklist: 1) Check the voltage on your system before and after starting. Before starting, it should be a little over 6v. With the engine running, it should be considerably over 6v. (I'm used to 12v systems, where it is 12.5v before starting and 14v while running.) a) If the voltage is under 6v before starting, charge the battery and check again. b) If the voltage is still under 6v after charging, replace the battery. c) If the voltage does not increase while running, check the generator. Clean the terminals on the generator. Check/adjust/replace the voltage regulator. Heck, sometimes just tapping the generator lightly is enough to get it genning again. d) If the voltage still does not come up significantly above 6v while running, try a replacement generator/alternator. 2) Check your battery cables. Corroded cables and ends can lead to a voltage drop, leading to drained batteries and burned-out starter motors. Less volts = more amps. 3) Check your starter switch. If it looks ancient, get a replacement. 4) Consider upgrading to a 12v system, and then consider the Ford solinoid solution I gave as a response to "Starter problems" in this discussion list.
