I had the same problem with my 140 about 2 yrs ago. Here's what fixed it for me: apparently, 6V systems are very picky when it comes to cracked insulation on even the smaller wires. I replaced small wire with cracked insulation - no more problem. Afterwards, I also tightened up the magnets inside the generator, but that was done 6 months later while I had it off anyway... Cheers
