Dan it is very straight forward. I set them at .018 cold. Front front to back, the valve arrangement is exhaust intake, intake exhaust, exhaust intake, intake exhaust. I start with #1 cylinder and watch the exhaust valve open and close then watch the intake immediately open and close after that. Then I slowly turn the pulley until the knotch is lined up on the timing mark. That will put #1 on TDC compression stroke. Use a 1/2 inch open end or box wrench and a large screwdriver to adjust your tappet gap.
