I think they got lighter because of war restrictions. Everybody has their own opinion on the shade of red that the Farmalls should be. If you don't have to be politicaly correct, paint it the shade that pleases you. I know a guy that painted his with paint he bought at JD dealer,JD RED. He was happy with it, I must admit that it looked nice...
