I assume you are talking about the Lambert brakes, not the Super M brakes. I have Lambert brakes and have taken them apart and reworked. It's been awhile, but I don't recall any spring as you describe on the inside. There is an external spring on the outside of the casing that pulls the brakes back. On the inside, there was a fairly large cone shaped spring over the actuating rod on the inside. The other springs on the inside, are the ones that pull the disks back apart. Those springs are short. I suggest you go to the IH dealer and ask to see the parts catalog. My dealer had the parts catalog, but could not get many parts, but he could get new disks. Hope this helps
