I have to agree with you, Hugh, but compared to the other engine available on the 706 with glow plugs, the German diesel was an improvement. Dad had a 560 with glow plugs, hated starting it every day to feed cows. Once it was running he loved it for loader work. I guess in short what I'm saying is the German diesel was an improvement for IH. The later IH engines do have more lugging ability, especially the D360, DT360, D407, DT407 and the DT400 series used in the 66 thru 88 series. Steven
