Your description is a little misleading, however I think you are talking about the lower live shaft with the large gear in front of clutch housing, this drives the hydraulic pump, the washer on the original set up was too thin, would let bolt loose and gear wobble on spline. It usually ruins the gear and shaft spline, the new washer from IH is a very thick washer, also takes a little longer grade 8 bolt.
