Actually, I'm not sure which way you would turn it. The tach cable on my 300U was stuck tight, so nothing was moving. My experience with that trick was on speedometer cables, and they generally seemed to need reverse on Chevys. Running backwards didn't hurt the speedo, so I can't imagine it would hurt the tach, as the movement inside them is almost identical. Probably a good idea to go slow at first just in case. You could find out for sure by unhooking the cable at the distributor and watching which way the tach drive gear turns when you have someone else crank the starter. I would check with the local Case/IH dealer for a tach cable, if they are unreasonably high, my next choice would be a hot rod store or a boat store. The cable on my 300U is 47 inches long, I found one listed in a 1995 airplane supply house catalog for $35.00
